Songwriting

I really enjoy writing songs. Words and Music! This is a bit of insight I've learned over the years as I learned to write songs. I hope that anything I can pass on to my fellow songwriters who are just starting out will be helpful with your songwriting. -tgm-

As a songwriter I try to tell a story and sometimes it has an ending and sometimes it may be a
song that you want to come to your on conclusions, I write verses and chorus, sometimes I'll
bring in a bridge sometimes I won't, according to the mood of the song at the time a I am
writing it. But I try to do this in a 3 minute window of time. That's the hard part. As a performer, I
love a song with lots of guitar playing along with the song, I try to put that behind my thought
pattern when I write, I guess because I grew up when songs had to make a point in less that 3
minutes to be on the radio, I actually have a few songs that come in way under that make a
clear cut point and is finished! "What's A Man Suppose To Do?" is a perfect example.
What Is A Man Suppose To Do?
I met someone tonight that really caught my eye and her love is ever thing I've ever wanted But her love will never last Because there's someone in my life Who loves me and needs me more than she does And as a man I'll pass it off And go along my way Will her love bring me back, another day
To love her, then leave her Is the hardest thing for me to do but my love belongs to someone at home And that someone at home loves me too What is a man suppose to do

Simple, To the point, I repeat the chorus when I do the song, A Native American in North
Dakota, named Roland Marcellis, put the cut on his first album. It was produced with a
musical bridge, and repeated the chorus.
The cut was done pretty close to the Demo, so I appreciate that.
If you notice, songs start out with a statement, they just don't start out in the middle of a
thought.
I MET SOMEONE TONIGHT.
It tells you exactly when, and what, and who, Someone!, however it doesn't tell you
where.
As you listen to the this story, this person is only talking within himself, There is no
conversation with anyone but the story teller. In the end, he still questions his motive.
"WHAT IS A MAN SUPPOSE TO DO?"

I write constantly, I carry a pad, a pen, and I also carry a mini recorder so i can grab
ideas out of my head. The mini recorder is for the music that is swimming in my
head. I was in an auto accident back in 1993 and since then i write everything down
as a habit, because at the time I had short term memory loss. It has helped my
writing a lot writing things down. I suggest anyone that is creative in any kind of
writing, write down their thoughts not to forget them. I have a briefcase that has
many ideas that i have written. I may never get to all of them, however, when I plan
a co-writer day, it's nice to have several things to be able to bring to the table.
